A medical specialist very kindly said to me 'i'm surprised you don't have fatty liver as well' after confirming that thankfully that wasn't an issue for me. A rheumatologist told me 'you're not bad enough to qualify for our $25,000 treatment. Come back when you can't walk' and that was when I realised that my problems might have been defined (finally) by traditional medicine, but I was not going to get any help with improving my quality of life. That's what I wanted, and I know that's what every one of us wants at some level. It also means something different to every one of us.
I found my way towards a better quality of life when I enrolled with the world's leading nutrition school - the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. The core of my nutritional schooling started here, and finishes this June (2014). I have also done a few other short courses, and a yoga teacher training which have added significantly to my knowledge base since then, and incorporating what I have learned has helped me lose 10kg and keep them off for more than 3 years, and reduced all of my underlying problems to where I can actually get on with living my life. In fact I can say for the first time since I was a teenager that I've finally learned to LOVE my life in every sense of the word.
With the absolute deepest respect, and while acknowledging the need for doctors, there just isn't time or energy dedicated to helping people like me within that system - and especially when you can't afford hundreds of dollars an hour for private therapists and clinicians. People like me aren't under immediate threat of death but have been killing themselves slowly from the inside out. I was on my own and knew it, and that is perhaps why my journey is still very much ongoing. I'm only learning, but what I'm learning is so powerful, and still not available to so many people that I know I will spend the rest of my life dedicated to helping people like me.
You can read more about how my work as a health coach does this on the health coaching tab, where I explain the difference between myself and doctors or other medical practitioners. Combining your medical care with counselling, and examining the whole picture - career, spirituality, relationships and finance is, in my humble opinion, the only way to truly get to the bottom of your health issues. I want to make sure they are taken care of in the best way possible, and managed so that they hopefully don't come back. A system supporting millions, which is already under so much pressure, simply can't be there that way for each individual. One day in the future it is my dream that we will have that sort of system, but until then I work alongside hospitals, chiropractors, nutritionists and personal trainers (or whoever you might be seeing) to complete the picture.
There is much more to my story, I have a law degree and am also a trained journalist, and budding science and metaphysics nerd. I'd be happy to share anything that might help you in your own life. I know the powerful tools that are working for me and I'm ready and willing to pass them on to you during our time together, in the way that's best suited to you and your current needs.
Whether our paths cross now or somewhere down the line, I wish you all the best on your own journey to health and happiness, and a fulfilling, purposeful life.
Live. Love. Play
